History

Over 200 players each year have battled for the gold on the McCaw Pickleball Courts since they were completed in 2018.  Our annual Survivor Pickleball Tournament gives us a tournament on our home courts, helps promote local businesses, and serves as a modest fundraiser for LIPA to help with maintenance and improvement of the Pickleball Courts.

Our first Tournament Committee chose the Survivor name and theme based on the popular Survivor TV series.  It is a good fit because players have to survive the elements and outdink, outslam, and outplay their opponents to make it to the winners circle.

In 2018, we had 213 players registered for the 3-day tournament and in 2019 we had 281.  We didn’t have a tournament in 2020, but Survivor came back in 2021 and 2022 as a two day tournament with 204 and 218 players respectively.

Survivor is currently a non-sanctioned skill level tournament with a round robin format.  We currently have Men’s, Women’s, Mixed Doubles, and Singles.  The skill levels are 3.0 to 4.5.

The Survivor Planning Committee starts preparing for the tournament at the beginning of each year and on tournament weekend we have over 60 member volunteers working tirelessly to give participants a memorable tournament experience.

With over 200 players participating, we are very thankful for all our hardworking volunteers who make our Survivor tournament a success each year.

Due to the court expansion construction at McCaw Park, LIPA's SURVIVOR Pickleball Tournament is cancelled for 2024.  We will be back in 2025, so mark your calendars for August 23-24, 2025.  We'll have double the courts and double the fun!

Enjoy the Pickleball Experience!
